There are a few design principles I live by.

The Client

“The more you engage with customers the clearer things become and the easier it is to determine what you should be doing. “ John Russell

The core principle for me is that we need to put the client first and start really listening to them. Even though you might not agree with his vision you still need to listen and then make suggestions to better their view. We need to make the whole process easy and comfortable to the client, which is very easy to forget when deadlines are banging on your front door.
I am a peoples´ person though and love to listen. It comes naturally to me. This helps the process immensely.

The Vision

I see the vision that my client tries to paint me. I get the vibe so to speak. From there it is easy to continue to designing the product for him.

The Design

“Your customer doesn’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. “ Damon Richards

The design process to me is more problem solving than anything else. There I try to capture my client´s vision, create something unique and make it the usable way. I do prefer to follow trends and to be on top of my game, but I don´t want to sacrifice the usability in the process. In the end it is not all about being in fashion. As long as there is enough of us following the same trend does not automatically means that it is a good thing. One needs to be critical and observe it from the clients` point of view.

The Color

Color is way too important aspect of the end result to pass by. After studying color psychology I saw to what extent the colors were used by advertisers and brand makers. With color you can either make or break your whole design. Color tells you a story on its` own. It does not need any fancy pictures around it even. Color can portray many different moods and visions, it shows status, value for money and reassurance. It calls for action or relaxes. It is a powerful weapon.

The Technical Aspect

The world of internet is developing in an increasing speed and it is vital to keep up. I love to read about the latest developments and get really excited about learning new. Technology never sleeps, never stands still, and neither do I.

My view

It doesn´t matter what you have designed in the past. Like me, I´ve done clothes, interiors, fabric prints, styling, web pages etc. It is the mind of a designer. You dig deep into the problem of your client and derive from there to reach a fabulous end result. I love solving problems and this is just the profession that fits the bill.
